People have strange ideas about food. In the 18th century, people in the USA g　　      tomatoes, but they never a　　        them. They thought tomatoes were d　　     food. People called them poisonous (有毒的) apples.
Thomas Jefferson was a learned president (有学问的总统) and he knew people in Paris enjoyed the nice  t　　     of tomatoes. He wanted his people to enjoy tomatoes, but  h　　      could he change their ideas?
Jefferson grew some tomatoes in his garden. And he  t　　      his cook to cook tomato soup (汤). Then he held a party. There was  p　　     of tomato soup on the table. He invited visitors to try the soup. He wasn’t  s　　       when he found all of them liked the soup. Of course, he  n　　       told them they were eating poisonous apples.
